A 38-year-old man was shot in the leg shortly after noon on Tuesday in LaPlace's New Era subdivision and had to be airlifted to a New Orleans hospital. He was found lying in a yard on the 1800 block of Cinclair Loop, and afterward he refused to tell detectives anything about what happened.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office says deputies responded at 12:09 p.m. Tuesday to a call about a person being shot, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. Officers arrived to find the man down in the yard on Cinclair Loop, and St. John Parish Fire Department personnel began treating his leg wound until Acadian Ambulance took over. He was then flown by helicopter to a hospital in New Orleans, per the release.
Despite the severity of his injury, the man declined to cooperate with investigators, the sheriff's office said. That refusal has left detectives without an account from the one person who could explain what happened, and WDSU reported that deputies are investigating.
A Street With a Troubled Recent History
Tuesday's shooting is not the first act of gunfire on that stretch of Cinclair Loop. In January 2025, someone opened fire on a bicyclist around 10:30 p.m. in the same 1800 block; the cyclist was not hit, according to a report from WGNO. Coverage of that case from L'Observateur noted that officials said no motive had been established and that the investigation was ongoing at the time.
A shooting on Cinclair Loop occurred at 7:20 p.m. and involved Omarion Ingram. Two suspects were later arrested in that case, though the details of Tuesday's shooting so far bear no confirmed connection to either prior incident.
