As reported by the Nashville Tennessean, the restaurant's final day was Sept. 27, according to restaurant workers who confirmed the closure. Captain D's own location page for the Mt. Juliet address now lists the site simply as Permanently Closed, matching what employees and the property owner told the paper.
Captain D's describes itself as a quick-service fish and seafood restaurant, a niche it has occupied since its earliest days. The Nashville-based chain traces its roots to a single storefront that opened decades ago and has since grown into a familiar name across the region.
A Chain Rooted in Middle Tennessee
Captain D's was founded in 1969, per the same account from the Tennessean, and the company is headquartered in Nashville. The brand's own history, posted on its location pages, says the seafood restaurant tradition began when its first location opened on August 15, 1969.
That original spot opened in Donelson, Tennessee, under a different name entirely. It was known originally as Mr. D's Seafood and Hamburgers, per Captain D's location page, before the business grew into the chain that would eventually spread its fish-and-fries formula well beyond Middle Tennessee.
What's Left Unclear
No reason for the Mt. Juliet closure has been provided by either the restaurant workers or the property owner cited in the Tennessean's report. It's also not clear how long this particular location had operated at its Mt. Juliet Road address before shutting down.
A 2022 announcement covered by Businesswire described Captain D's at the time as a national chain of more than 500 seafood-focused quick-service restaurants, though that figure has not been independently verified as current.
