Salt Lake County Search and Rescue, Solitude Ski Patrol and Unified Fire Authority responded to a medical emergency on Willow Heights Trail in Big Cottonwood Canyon. KUTV reported that Search and Rescue personnel brought medical supplies and helped carry the patient out; Unified Fire Authority personnel began advanced life support after reaching the patient.

The patient was an out-of-state visitor who experienced cardiac arrest about a mile up the trail, according to KUTV. Bystanders called 911 and performed CPR, continuing compressions for about 20 minutes before advanced help arrived.

KUTV reported that the patient regained a pulse on the trail and was taken to a hospital by AirMed. The account did not provide the patient’s condition after transport.

Willow Heights Trail is a 2.7-mile out-and-back route that starts at about 7,200 feet and has 692 feet of elevation gain, according to Trails Utah.
