Ogden police were still looking for the driver of a silver truck days after the vehicle struck a 13-year-old riding an e-bike on 7th Street and left the scene. The crash happened at about 11 a.m. Sunday near 7th Street and Adams Avenue, according to Gephardt Daily and KUTV.
The child was initially taken to a hospital as a precaution, but his family later told KUTV that his injuries were more serious. His grandfather said the boy suffered a cracked skull, damage near an eye socket and a severe leg injury. He underwent leg surgery and was expected to require further treatment, including additional operations and skin grafts.
Police investigation remains open
As of Tuesday, Ogden police had not publicly identified a suspect, released a license-plate number or announced a citation or charge. The department’s traffic division said it was following leads involving the vehicle, according to Gephardt Daily. The available reports do not establish the truck’s speed, the driver’s identity or what caused the collision.
Accounts also differ about what happened immediately before the impact. KUTV reported that police received accounts alleging the boy had been weaving through traffic, while his grandfather said the boy was stopped at a stop sign when he was hit. Those descriptions remain unresolved in the available reporting.
The broader e-bike safety picture
The Utah Highway Safety Office says bicycles are considered vehicles under state safety guidance, a designation that includes electric-assisted bicycles and gives riders responsibilities shared with motorists. That general guidance does not determine fault in the Ogden crash.
There is also a broader medical trend involving young e-bike riders, although it is not a crash count for Ogden or Weber County. In a Feb. 11, 2026 post, Intermountain Health reported that trauma data from its Primary Children’s Hospital campuses in Utah showed a 66.7% increase in e-bike injuries among children and teenagers over the previous year. The hospital-based figure measures treated injuries, not roadway crashes or hit-and-run incidents.
Earlier Adams Avenue crash offers limited comparison
An earlier incident provides a location-related comparison but does not show that the crashes share a cause. KSL reported that a 6-year-old boy riding a bicycle on Adams Avenue was struck by a truck, suffered head and hand injuries, and was later released from the hospital. Police described that suspect vehicle as an older silver-and-blue Dodge; the available reports do not establish a connection to the truck sought in the current investigation.
For now, the central unanswered questions are who was driving the silver truck and exactly how the collision occurred. Police have not announced an identification, and the 13-year-old’s family is focused on his recovery.
