According to KUTV, the Utah Highway Patrol reported that the motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, which involved an SUV on southbound I-15 in Spanish Fork. The rider was flown by helicopter to Utah Valley Hospital for treatment, the station reported. The Utah Department of Transportation said two left lanes were blocked near the US-6 interchange as crews worked the scene, with the roadway expected to partially reopen by 6:30 p.m. and full clearance estimated around 9:18 p.m. Saturday.
Speed Under Investigation at a Notorious Bottleneck
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Davies Sanchez said speed is being actively investigated as a potential contributing factor in the crash, according to KSL.com. The I-15 segment near Spanish Fork and the US-6 interchange is the subject of major interchange expansion projects, as reported by Construction Equipment Guide.
This is not the first fatal or serious motorcycle crash to strike this corridor. In July 2025, a motorcyclist was killed near Spanish Fork Canyon at the US-6 and US-89 junction when a turning vehicle crossed into the rider's path, according to Gephardt Daily.
A Deadly Year for Utah Riders
Saturday's crash lands amid what state data shows is Utah's worst year on record for motorcycle fatalities. Utah Highway Safety Office figures show 72 motorcyclist deaths occurred on Utah roads in 2025, a 32% jump over the 53 deaths recorded in 2024.

Helmet Laws in Focus
Utah law leaves helmet use optional for adult riders. Under Utah Code § 41-6a-1505, Department of Transportation-approved helmets are mandatory only for motorcycle operators and passengers under 21. Whether the Spanish Fork rider was wearing a helmet has not been disclosed.
