A 13-year-old boy has gone missing out of Midvale, and Unified Police are asking anyone with information to come forward. Kalvyn Valdez was last seen in the area of 7200 South and 700 East, and authorities describe the case as both missing and endangered.
According to ABC4 Utah, Valdez stands about 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighs roughly 110 pounds, and has blue eyes. Unified Police have asked the public to provide any information about his whereabouts.
No Waiting Period Required to Report a Missing Child
Utah officials emphasized that there is no required waiting period before reporting someone missing, the outlet's report notes. Anyone responding to an active emergency is urged to call 911 immediately rather than wait.
The same report also recommends that anyone interacting with law enforcement about a missing-person case keep notes, including officer names, the dates and times of conversations, the case number, and exactly what officers say.
How Utah's Endangered Missing Advisory Differs From an Amber Alert
Cases like this one are sometimes eligible for a tool separate from the Amber Alert system. Per KSL.com, an Amber Alert in Utah is reserved specifically for children who have been abducted, while an Endangered Missing Advisory can be issued whenever law enforcement determines a person is missing and considered at risk — a much broader standard.
That advisory carries looser eligibility rules than an Amber Alert, and it goes out to both media and the public, the same report explains. One law enforcement source suggested that more training for officers could help spread awareness of the tool and encourage its use.
Unified Police have not detailed the exact circumstances of Valdez's disappearance. Anyone with information about his location is asked to contact authorities.
