Police are asking the public to help locate 8-year-old Alexandria Tharp, who was last seen around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday near Spring Street and West Clinton Street in Danville, Indiana.
The Danville Police Department described Tharp as a runaway juvenile, according to Fox 59. The report said the department’s social media post did not provide further details about the circumstances.
AMBER Alert criteria and runaway reports
Indiana’s published AMBER Alert criteria require that a child be believed to have been abducted and to be in danger of serious bodily harm or death, according to the Indiana Amber Alert Plan. Those criteria do not establish the circumstances of Tharp’s case. As broader national context—not a finding about Tharp—the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children reported that 93% of the nearly 29,000 reports of children it received in 2023 involved children who ran away.
How to Identify Tharp
Tharp is approximately 4 feet 3 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue shirt with a cat on it and jeans. The department also provided a photo, according to the report.
Anyone with information about Tharp’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Hendricks County Communications Center at 317-839-8700.
