After months of serving only the office and life-science tenants at Kilroy Oyster Point, Farewinds has thrown its doors open to the general public in South San Francisco. The waterfront food hall at 357 Oyster Point Blvd. now offers Indian, Asian and Mediterranean-inspired lunch menus alongside grab-and-go meals and handcrafted coffee drinks for anyone who wants to walk in, not just badge-carrying campus workers.

The opening was reported by the East Bay Times, which detailed the hours and menu now available at the space. Farewinds had previously been open only to tenants of the offices and life science spaces for several months before this wider public debut, according to the same report. Chef Francisco Melchor prepares the lunchtime menus, and the East Bay Times notes the lineup includes chicken or vegan pho running $16 to $17, garlic noodles with grilled shrimp for $17, and lamb or butter chicken thali plates for $16.

Coffee drinkers get their own signature pour: the South City Pistachio Cappuccino, a $6 drink blending espresso, foamy milk, pistachio syrup and pistachio crumbles, per the East Bay Times report. The menu also includes fresh salads with strawberry and asparagus for $14 and roast beef horseradish sandwiches with gruyère cheese for $17. The market portion of Farewinds runs 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, while the food court operates 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays, both at the same Oyster Point Boulevard address.

A Waterfront Hub Built for Campus Life

Farewinds is operated by Bon Appétit Management Company and Kilroy Realty Company, the East Bay Times reports. The venue's own site describes it as an all-day destination shaped by the rhythm of campus life and the energy of the waterfront, according to farewindskop.com, with the food hall bringing globally inspired flavors together in one easygoing space designed for morning coffee runs, efficient working lunches and seamless takeout. The site also describes flexible event spaces and a welcoming waterfront setting for gatherings.

The project is part of a larger 48,400-square-foot amenities build-out at Kilroy Oyster Point, according to Interior Design, which describes the hall housing serveries, a grab-and-go market, lounges and a private dining room. That same coverage says Farewinds was designed as the nexus for everyone on campus, with a circular amphitheater beside it functioning as a town square for events or casual use. Kilroy Oyster Point is described as a premier waterfront life science and innovation campus in South San Francisco by Kilroy Oyster Point, which lists amenities including a Bay Trail, a park, a beach, a gym, a conference center and an outdoor amphitheater across the site.

Part of a Growing Food Hall Cluster

Kilroy Realty began redeveloping the 50-acre Oyster Point site in 2018, according to the Interior Design account, and the company's Phase 2 is now leasing, per Kilroy Oyster Point's own site. Angela Aman serves as chief executive officer of Kilroy Realty Corporation, and the East Bay Times reports that Farewinds represents an important new gathering place serving the Oyster Point campus community and the broader South San Francisco community.

Farewinds joins a cluster of campus-oriented dining venues that have opened around South San Francisco in recent months. Omakase World Market opened on June 16 at the Gateway of Pacific biotech campus, an approximately 50,000-square-foot venue designed for employees but also open to the public, according to The Almanac. That venue features six dining concepts including Dumpling Time and Kyoto Senses, with seating for 240 indoors, 100 more in a bar and lounge area, and 180 outdoors, the outlet reports. The Almanac's coverage also names The Hangar and Farewinds among the food halls that have emerged in South San Francisco in recent years.

Bon Appétit also operates The Anecdote, a public restaurant at Kilroy's waterfront campus opened in partnership with Kilroy Realty, according to Bon Appétit Management Company, which serves breakfast, lunch, rotating specials, cocktails, and local wines and beers. Taken together, the openings point to South San Francisco's biotech corridor increasingly doubling as a dining destination for workers and neighbors alike.
