Indianapolis is getting one more summer-like day before the weather makes a hard turn. Early Tuesday temperatures are in the upper 60s, with sunshine pushing the afternoon high close to 90 degrees. By midweek, rain and thunderstorms move in, followed by strong wind and a serious taste of fall.
Tuesday Brings Near-Record Heat And Gusty Winds
Tuesday will stay sunny and unusually warm, with a high near 90 and southwest winds between 8 and 13 mph. The National Weather Service in Indianapolis says the heat could challenge the city's October 13 record high of 86 degrees.
Wind gusts may reach 25 mph during the afternoon, so lightweight outdoor plans should be comfortable but breezy. Tuesday night will begin mostly clear before a chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Rain And Thunderstorms Take Over Wednesday And Thursday
Wednesday is the first truly unsettled day, with a 90% chance of showers and thunderstorms and a high near 83. Rain could produce between a quarter and half an inch during the day, while additional showers and storms remain likely Wednesday night.
Thursday stays cloudy and wet, with showers likely before afternoon thunderstorms and a high near 70. The latest forecast points to roughly 1 to 2 inches of rain across central Indiana through Thursday night, a substantial change from Tuesday's dry, record-chasing warmth.
Friday Turns Windy Before Frost Threatens
Friday will feel like a different season, with a high near 62 and northwest winds of 14 to 20 mph. Gusts could reach 35 mph, especially during the afternoon, while a few showers or thunderstorms remain possible before 2 p.m.
Saturday should be sunny but cool, topping out near 58 degrees. Clear skies could send temperatures down into the low to mid-30s Saturday night, with widespread frost likely and a localized freeze possible in colder parts of central Indiana, according to the NWS Indianapolis forecast.
Indianapolis Rebounds Next Week
Sunday brings sunshine and a high in the lower 60s, followed by mostly sunny skies and a high in the upper 60s Monday. The forecast is a sharper and wetter update to the week's earlier heat-to-frost outlook from Hoodline, with the storm window now looking more persistent through Thursday night.
