Indianapolis is starting Sunday, October 4, with clear skies and temperatures near 52 degrees. Sunshine will push the city to around 75 this afternoon, with light winds mainly from the northwest, then north, and no rain expected. It is a pretty strong opening act for a week that looks more like a long fall bonus than a typical October forecast.
Sunny Sunday Leads Into A Dry Stretch
The National Weather Service expects sunny skies Sunday afternoon, with winds shifting northwest at up to 8 mph. Sunday night should stay mostly clear, with temperatures falling to around 48 degrees before edging back toward 50 overnight.
The latest outlook adds more warmth and detail to the dry pattern outlined in Hoodline's previous forecast. Monday will be sunny but cooler, topping out near 69, while Monday night could drop to around 42 degrees.
Midweek Warmth Builds
Temperatures rebound Tuesday with a sunny high near 72, then climb to about 79 Wednesday. Thursday and Friday should remain sunny and mild, with highs near 76 and 77, followed by another warm Saturday near 79.
Overnight lows will generally land in the 40s and 50s, including a low around 50 Tuesday night and about 52 Wednesday night. Rain chances stay near zero through most of the week.
Dry Air Raises Fire Weather Concerns
The main concern is not rain but dry air. Forecasters say afternoon humidity could fall into the 30% range or lower on several days, so residents should use extra care with grills, outdoor burning and anything else that could create a spark.
Patchy frost is also possible mainly in outlying areas northeast of Indianapolis late Monday night into Tuesday morning, though widespread or significant frost is not expected. No watches, warnings or advisories are in effect for the city.
