A pedestrian was killed Friday night after being struck by a vehicle near 9050 South Mountain View Corridor in West Jordan. West Jordan police officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 9:31 p.m., and first responders found the man dead when they arrived.
According to Gephardt Daily, the pedestrian was believed to be an adult man, but his identity and age have not been confirmed. Investigators have also not determined whether he was in a crosswalk when he was hit, the outlet reported. The driver involved remained at the scene and was said to be cooperating with investigators.
No further details about the circumstances of the crash — including what led up to the collision or whether any citations have been issued — have been released. The station's report notes that it plans to update the story as more information becomes available.
Other Crashes Along Mountain View Corridor
Other fatal crashes have also occurred along Mountain View Corridor. Just days earlier, West Valley City police identified a man struck and killed by two vehicles while walking along the corridor near 4800 South on a Saturday night, according to Gephardt Daily. That victim was identified as 62-year-old Rigoberto Castillo-Hernandez of West Valley City.
As reported by Fox 13 Now, that investigation began just after 11:15 p.m. when officers were called to 4800 South Mountain View Corridor and found a man dead in the middle of the road. Further south in Herriman, an auto-pedestrian collision at Mountain View Corridor and Real Vista Drive left a woman dead on a Wednesday morning, per KUTV.
Repeated Crashes Draw Scrutiny From Officials
KUTV's reporting on the Herriman intersection found that police there have logged nine crashes at Mountain View Corridor and Real Vista Drive over the preceding six months, four or five of which caused injuries. Herriman police said they have responded with extra patrols, traffic stops, and citations when necessary at that intersection.
The Utah Department of Transportation told the station it reviews serious or fatal crashes for possible engineering fixes, including the potential addition of a traffic signal. A motorcyclist was also killed in June after colliding with a semitruck on 12600 South near Mountain View Corridor in Herriman, when the two vehicles were traveling west at about 6:45 a.m., according to KSL.
Another West Jordan pedestrian death, near 8600 South and 4000 West, prompted police in that case to note the roadway was dimly lit and lacked a nearby crosswalk, ABC4 reported. Investigators have not determined whether the pedestrian was in a crosswalk when he was struck near 9050 South.
