Chicago is waking up to mostly clear skies and a chilly start Friday, with temperatures around the upper 30s. North-northwest winds will make it feel sharper through the day as the city tops out near 49 degrees, setting up a cold night before the weekend turns noticeably brighter.
Windy Friday Gives Way To A Cold Night
Friday will bring partly sunny skies, but winds around 15 mph could gust near 25 mph, especially during the afternoon. Temperatures may slip back into the mid-40s later in the day, while the broader region faces a chance of freezing conditions overnight outside Chicago’s urban core.
The National Weather Service says skies could clear enough for temperatures to fall quickly Friday night, with sensitive plants at risk in colder parts of northern Illinois. Chicago’s official forecast calls for a low near 37 degrees, so the city should avoid the deepest chill, but nearby suburbs may not be as lucky.
Sunshine Returns For The Weekend
Saturday looks mostly sunny with a high near 51 and lighter west-northwest winds. Sunday should be sunnier and warmer, reaching about 57 degrees, making it the better day for a walk, errands or any outdoor plans that can wait out Friday’s bluster.
The warming trend continues Monday, when sunny skies and a high near 61 are expected. Tuesday should remain mild and dry near 59 before temperatures ease back into the mid-50s for Veterans Day on Wednesday.
Lakefront Conditions Stay Rougher
Chicago’s lakefront will remain a little less inviting Friday, with persistent northerly winds over Lake Michigan. A Small Craft Advisory remains posted for the Illinois nearshore waters through early Saturday, according to the weather service, while the Indiana nearshore advisory continues into Saturday afternoon.
The new outlook is a sunnier turn from the rainier, colder setup described in Thursday’s Hoodline forecast. For now, Chicago gets one unpleasant wind-down before a weekend rebound and a brief taste of 60-degree weather early next week.
