"This fatal crash occurred in a part of San Francisco that’s been short-changed in terms of traffic safety improvements," Jodie Medeiros of Walk SF said.

Officials say the cyclist was "doored" by a parked car, then struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The victim was walking on the sidewalk when the SUV driver struck him.

The suspect "is a person who has been known in the neighborhood for some time," said a legislative aide to Supervisor Rafael Mandelman.

In recent weeks, there have been several reports of overnight home burglaries in the area.
