
An Indianapolis caregiver faces felony charges after allegedly assaulting a non-verbal, autistic man in his care, according to court documents. Eighty-five-year-old William Brooks Jr. has been charged with one count of battery resulting in bodily injury to a disabled person, a crime considered a Level 5 felony. The incident leading to these charges was brought to light following a report to Greenwood police on July 5 by employees at Community Integration Support Services, as stated in a report by FOX59.
Allegations of the abuse surfaced when coworkers of Brooks reportedly captured part of the incident on video. A Greenwood police officer reviewed the footage, which depicted Brooks striking the victim with a closed fist multiple times in the chest and abdomen area, Brooks striking the victim with a flashlight, as described by the witnesses, persisted past the events shown in the footage. Photographs presented to the police corroborated these accounts, showing the victim with several bloody cuts on his lips, which were detailed in a report by CBS4Indy.
The motivation behind the alleged assault has not been made public, and details surrounding the circumstances of the encounter continue to unfold as the investigation proceeds.
