A Pleasant Grove Junior High School history and guided studies teacher is in custody following charges of sexual abuse of a student. Multiple sources reported the arrest, with allegations emerging that the accused engaged in an unlawful sexual relationship with an eighth-grade student.
According to FOX13, the teacher, whose identity has not been disclosed to protect the ongoing investigation, was apprehended after details of the abuse surfaced. The situation came to light via a recorded conversation held in the victim's car, where the teacher purportedly attempted to downplay the incidents. The teacher is said to have requested the victim to allege they just made out or something and didn't have sex.
This account is further substantiated by KSL, which described an unusual transaction caught on video. In an exchange with the victim's friend, who was present during the conversation, the accused teacher reportedly offered $500 as a bribe. "In the video, you can hear the (friend) telling Keaton he needs to quickly learn that 'little girls' should not be attractive to him," the affidavit alleges, according to KSL.
Further digging into the case by KUTV revealed that the victim and her friend had initially gone to confront the teacher at his home in American Fork. It was after this confrontation that the incriminating car encounter in Pleasant Grove occurred. During the recorded conversation, the suspect is said to have insisted on a fabricated version of events, where the sexual encounter was to be misrepresented. "Keaton told the victim he would give her a bunch of money and said he had $500 in his car," KUTV details from the police affidavit.
The case is ongoing, and further details will emerge as the investigation proceeds. The school district is yet to state the matter, and the full implications for the community and the educational institution remain to be seen. Meanwhile, the accused awaits due process as the legal system prepares to thoroughly investigate the charges levied against him.
