A 24-year-old man was taken into custody by Salt Lake City Police Department's Liberty Patrol Division after he was found allegedly possessing a stolen vehicle and shoplifting from a store in Sugar House. The incident began on the evening of February 11, according to SLCPD, when authorities were alerted to a theft at a retail outlet near 2210 South 1300 East.

Responding officers discovered that the suspect, later identified as Jason Braithwaite, had allegedly used a stolen truck to travel to the store before reportedly stealing clothing and footwear. In a subsequent interaction with law enforcement, Braithwaite is accused of providing a false name. As detailed by SLCPD, the accused was subsequently arrested and taken to Salt Lake County Jail, facing charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, retail theft, and giving false information to an officer.

The list of charges leveled against Braithwaite doesn't end there. He is also facing allegations of possession of burglary tools and drug paraphernalia. It should be noted that, as per standard legal procedure, charges against Braithwaite are merely accusations. "Every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt," as stated by SLCPD.
