Almost 1,000 fentanyl pills were confiscated by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) of the Salt Lake City Police Department as a part of an investigation into drugs and firearms. The SLCPD's SWAT team conducted the search warrant execution on Friday, with their attention focused on a residence near 700 West North Temple, which ultimately led to the substantial drug seizure.
In the service of the warrant, closely working with the VCAT evidence was gathered, which suggested the suspect, identified as Luis Ricardo Chavez-Rodriguez, had access to firearms. This prompted the involvement of the specialized SWAT Team to maintain the safety of all parties involved in the operation, as reported by Salt Lake City Police Department.
Chavez-Rodriguez now faces charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, alongside other outstanding warrants. He has been booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail, pending further legal procedures. The SLCPD has reminded the public that these charges are merely allegations and that Chavez-Rodriguez, like any accused individual, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
