The Lawrence community and the Lawrence Police Department are mourning the loss of one of their longtime officers, Detective Michael McKenna, who passed away last Thursday after a valiant struggle with cancer. Detective McKenna's 17 years of dedication to law enforcement were marked by his commitment to safeguarding the community with extraordinary compassion and integrity.
Known for his kindness and profound respect for all, Detective McKenna's contributions to Lawrence transcended the mere enforcement of law, he has been a guardian of the peace and a pillar of support for citizens in their times of need, yet his absence now leaves a void that echoes through the hallways of the station and in the hearts of those he served. In a statement from the Lawrence Police Department, officials reminisced about Detective McKenna's "unwavering commitment to protecting our community" and his display of respect "to everyone he encountered."
As arrangements for remembrance are underway, the community is invited to partake in a memorial service that will celebrate the life and honor the legacy of Detective McKenna. This service is scheduled to take place on Friday, at 1 PM at Horizon Christian Fellowship located at 7702 Indian Lake Rd., Lawrence, IN 46236, where colleagues, friends, and family will converge in homage to a life devoted to the service of others.
