A 36-year-old man was arrested by the Salt Lake City Police Department's Bike Squad for his alleged involvement in drug distribution near the Jordan River Trail. The arrest occurred following surveillance by SLCPD officers on Monday morning, capturing Alexander James Hall in the midst of what appeared to be a drug deal.
According to SLCPD, witnesses saw Hall surrounded by a group near Redwood Road and North Star Drive, who subsequently scattered as police approached. Engaged in illegal street-crossing, Hall was detained by the officers nearby.
During the search following his detention, SLCPD officers discovered an assortment of drugs, including fentanyl pills and methamphetamine, alongside drug paraphernalia and cash. Hall has since admitted to selling fentanyl, creating further gravity for the situation given the substance's dangerous reputation in the community.
The SLCPD has emphasized their commitment to public safety with this proactive enforcement action, and while Hall faces multiple charges related to drug possession and distribution, he remains innocent until proven otherwise. Recovered during the investigation, "officers recovered fentanyl pills packaged in small bindles," highlighted a point of significant concern attributed to the powerful opioid's presence.
