The streets of Salt Lake City were marred by tragedy following a fatal accident that took the life of a young man on Tuesday night. The Salt Lake City Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly crash that occurred on 2200 West near 1250 North.

According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, the crash happened shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday, when SLC911 received several calls about an accident. Responding to the scene were members of the SLCPD Pioneer Patrol Division, Salt Lake City Fire, and Gold Cross. They discovered that an SUV, which was traveling northbound in an active construction zone, had collided with a front-end loader construction vehicle.

The sole occupant of the SUV, identified as 19-year-old Brian Johnson, sustained critical injuries and was quickly transported to a nearby hospital. Despite the swift actions of first responders, Johnson later died as a result of the injuries sustained during the crash. No other injuries have been reported from the incident.

The SLCPD’s CAR (Crash Analysis Reconstruction) team processed the scene, which has now been cleared. While traffic has resumed normal flow, the police caution that the area remains an active construction zone. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, and the detailed investigation is expected to shed light on how such events unfolded on what began as an ordinary night.
