A 19-year-old Salt Lake County man is facing attempted murder charges after police say he repeatedly stabbed his father in a domestic dispute. Dereon James Hinmon was arrested on Sunday evening after allegedly assaulting his father, leaving him in critical condition, according to Gephardt Daily.
Reports from law enforcement indicate that the incident occurred amidst an ongoing argument over household chores. The tension, which escalated throughout the night, resulted in Hinmon purportedly stabbing his father multiple times in the stomach and back. As detailed by ABC4, upon arrival, authorities found the victim in "delta" condition, signifying a poor state of health, though he was later upgraded to "charlie" or stable, yet still in poor condition.
The homeowner and witness to the incident recounted the events to the Unified Police Department, saying she saw Hinmon stabbing his father during the altercation. The Unified Police Department's booking affidavit, as stated by KSL, described a scene with "signs of a struggle" and a kitchen stained with blood.
Hinmon, when interviewed by police, admitted to the stabbing, asserting he intended to exact “revenge.” His expression during interrogation, seemingly smiling when informed of his father’s potential demise, and an unremorseful demeanor while being photographed for evidence, have been noted by authorities, suggesting a disturbing detachment from the severity of the crime.
