A gourmet butcher shop that built a following on Madison Street is crossing town, with plans to open a second Clarksville storefront near one of the city's busiest auto dealership campuses. New York Butcher Shoppe owner Taylor Rather confirmed the expansion to a shopping center at 2670 Trenton Road, directly across from the Jenkins & Wynne Ford-Lincoln-Honda dealership, with hopes of opening by March 2027.
Rather confirmed the plans to Clarksville Now, saying the goal is to eventually operate three New York Butcher Shoppe locations around the city. The business partnered with Joni Haston on the new location, and Haston said the team is excited to bring its operations to the other side of town. The shop's first Clarksville outpost opened more than a year before the announcement on Madison Street, and per the same account, customers near Trenton Road had been asking for a location closer to home.
What's Driving the Move Northeast
The Trenton Road site sits directly across from the 42-acre Jenkins & Wynne Ford-Lincoln-Honda dealership campus, a longtime auto retailer that relocated to 2655 Trenton Road in 2016, according to Clarksville Now's earlier reporting on the dealership. The corridor has been filling in fast: a 24,000-square-foot Herzing University nursing campus opened nearby at 2691 Trenton Road in August 2025, according to Main Street Media of Tennessee. The area also sits near the 84-acre Black Oaks mixed-use development, approved by the Clarksville City Council in late 2023 to bring retail, office space, and residential units along the Spring Creek Parkway extension.
Retail space along corridors like Trenton Road and Madison Street has stayed in demand, with Clarksville commercial rents averaging roughly $24 per square foot in mid-2026 amid high suburban occupancy, per LoopNet listing data. That growth is tied in part to industrial investment feeding the local economy, including a $90.2 million manufacturing expansion by automotive supplier T.RAD North America announced in December 2025 that is expected to create 928 jobs in Montgomery County over five years, as reported by Clarksville Now.
A Hybrid Model Built Around the Meat Counter
New York Butcher Shoppe's appeal centers on a hybrid retail format that pairs a hand-cut meat counter selling Certified Angus Beef with prepared entrées, wine, imported specialty groceries, and deli items, according to FranchiseHelp. At the new Trenton Road location, the business plans to add a soda fountain with craft soda selections and an outdoor seating area. Haston said the business tries to find solutions for customers and make their lives easier, a philosophy the team credits with driving demand for a second footprint.
The franchise concept itself dates back to 1999, when Brooklyn native Billy D'Elia and his family first opened a New York Butcher Shoppe in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, after spotting a gap in full-service butcher shops in the area. Opening a franchise today requires an estimated initial investment between $459,000 and $794,000, including a $35,000 franchise fee, according to Entrepreneur. Clarksville's expansion mirrors moves elsewhere in the franchise's footprint; a new Southlake, Texas shop opened in September as the brand continues expanding into growing suburban markets.
Rather credits the Madison Street staff with helping make the expansion possible, and the plan to eventually run three Clarksville locations suggests the northeast side won't be the brand's final stop in the city. For now, Rather said a March 2027 opening for the Trenton Road location is possible.
