San Francisco is starting gray Thursday, with temperatures around 63 degrees and a mild afternoon ahead. The bigger concern is at the waterline, where high tides could flood low-lying shoreline areas around San Francisco Bay. The city should reach around 63 degrees before cooling into the mid-50s tonight.
High Tide Could Make Waterfront Travel Messy
High tide at the San Francisco gauge is expected around 1:43 p.m. Thursday, running 1.9 feet above normal, with up to 1.9 feet of inundation possible near shorelines and tidal waterways, according to the National Weather Service. The Coastal Flood Advisory covers Bay shoreline areas through 6 p.m. Saturday, while Pacific Coast locations remain under the advisory through Friday.
Low-lying infrastructure could see flooding, isolated road closures and additional coastal erosion during high tide. Anyone traveling near the waterfront should allow extra time, avoid driving around barricades and never drive through water of unknown depth.
The advisory extension adds a new wrinkle to the shoreline forecast covered in earlier Hoodline coverage, even as the city itself stays mostly dry.
Clouds Thursday, Sunshine Returns Sunday
Thursday stays mostly cloudy with light southeast winds. Friday reaches near 59 degrees.
Halloween on Saturday looks mostly cloudy and cool, with a high near 64 degrees and a low around 51. Sunday brings the best outdoor weather of the weekend, with sunny skies and a high near 64.
Rain Chances Remain Uncertain Next Week
