On Monday, the Castro/Upper Market Community Benefit District (Castro CBD) voted to scuttle its proposal to install a private network of 125 security cameras.

"Surveillance technology has been used repeatedly in the Castro to target and harass the LGBTQ community," wrote the Harvey Milk LGBTQ Democratic Club in a letter opposing the proposal.

Nearly 400 complaints had been filed about the two encampments, one of which had allegedly been using a vacant commercial space as a meth lab.
