Castro boutique wine and liquor store Bottle Bacchanal (4126 18th Street) has announced it will close after nearly four years in the Castro.

Bottle Bacchanal's last day will be Monday, January 12.

"This ending comes full of gratitude and pride," announced Bottle Bacchanal owner Beth Hughes on Instagram.

Bottle Bacchanal had been listed for sale since June, and a liquor license application from December indicates the business was sold to Bradley Levine and Tipple Top Industries.

Hughes has not responded to multiple requests for comment since June.

Bottle Bacchanal opened in February 2022 in the space formerly occupied by Specs in the City & Cheaters Too.

Along with natural wine, Bottle Bacchanal offered small-batch artisanal liquors, craft beers, and ciders with a focus on women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ producers.

"What started as a small idea during the pandemic turned into years of incredible conversations, wild bottles, thoughtful gifts, unforgettable tastings, and a community that showed up again and again," said Hughes. "We couldn't have asked for a better ride."

"Thank you for supporting a small, woman-owned business, for drinking adventurously, and for making this place feel alive," added Hughes. "Thank you for the love, the support, and the many raised glasses. It's been a joy."

Castro residents and visitors looking to pick up a bottle of artisanal and craft wine can do so at a variety of locations, including Blush, Swirl, Castro Village Wine Co., Millay, and Epicurean Trader.

Bottle Bacchanal's closure follows a handful of other Castro businesses that have announced their closure, including Kitchen Story, Thai Chef, and Sushi Delight.

At this time, an opening date for the new business taking over the space has not been announced.
