Here's a brief roundup of recent changes to Castro area businesses. In this edition, a neighborhood group has moved its officers, a long-troubled restaurant space has seen a liquor license transfer and a fitness studio and dog walking business have opened.

[solidcore] (2175 Market Street)

Castro fitness enthusiasts now have another place to get their sweat on.

Washington D.C.-based pilates-inspired studio [solidcore] has opened at 2175 Market Street.

According to its website, [solidcore] offers fitness enthusiasts a "50-minute full-body, high-intensity, low impact, resistance training workout using slow and purposeful movements targeting the core, lower & upper body."

Hoodline broke the news about [solidcore] taking over the long-vacant triangular space last summer and the planning commission approved its conditional use permit in March.

Sniff and Go (2338 Market Street)

A new dog walking business Sniff and Go recently opened at 2338 Market Street.

According to its website, Sniff and Go "strive[s] to offer a dog walking service that enables peace of mind, a happy and tired dog, and a reliable routine that puts more time back into your days."

Owner and founder Emi Tringali started Sniff and Go in 2009 and received her Certified Professional Dog Trainer Knowledge Assessment (CPDT-KA) certification in 2024.

Sniff and Go takes over the long-vacant second-floor space above fitness studio MX3 Fitness. The space was previously occupied by software company Berbix, car sales startup Shift, and John Brody Salon.

Castro CBD (549A Castro Street)

The Castro/Upper Market Community Benefit District (Castro CBD) has returned to its former office space at 549A Castro Street.

Currently, the office space is behind Philz Coffee at 549 Castro Street.

Earlier this year, the Castro CBD vacated its offices at 693 14th Street after moving there in 2018.

The Castro CBD is funded through an assessment fee based on a formula calculated using linear frontage, building square footage, and lot size.

The Castro CBD provides additional street cleaning, trash removal, beautification, public safety workers, and marketing for the neighborhood.

2223 Market Street

Castro residents may have noticed another liquor license transfer notification on the window at 2223 Market Street, formerly Spanish/Mexican-inspired restaurant Copas.

Copas closed in April after less than three years in the Castro.

Public records indicate a liquor license transfer for the property was initiated on August 21.

However, the license is being transferred back to the property co-owner Ken Marciano and his LLC Ralston Ventures.

The move is similar to what happened in 2020 after the short-lived Izakaya Sushi Ran closed after just seven months of operation.

Listing agent Catherine Meunier confirmed the transfer with Hoodline and stated "we have not secured a tenant."

The space at 2223 Market has seen a great deal of turnover in the 12 years since neighborhood favorite 2223 Restaurant closed in 2012.

Since then, it’s housed five restaurants, none lasting longer than a few years: Jake’s on Market, Pesce, Nomica, Izakaya Sushi Ran, and Copas.
