Mexican Restaurant Zona Rosa Opening In Former Tacorgasmico Space In SF's CastroPhoto: Steven Bracco/Hoodline

Mexican restaurant Zona Rosa taqueria will soon be replacing Tacorgasmico at 2337 Market Street in the Castro.

Zona Rosa is a family-owned taqueria that was previously at 1797 Haight Street in the city's Upper Haight neighborhood.

The restaurant closed in June after more than 30 years at the same location. In 2019, the restaurant rebranded to Mi Familia.

News of Zona Rosa's opening comes after Hoodline shared on Monday that Salvadoran restaurant Los Amigos closed after only six months in the Castro.

Zona Rosa owner Ramiro Cardenas did not respond to Hoodline's request for comment.

Zona Rosa and Mi Familia menus included standard Mexican fare including burritos, tacos, tortas, fajitas, quesadillas, and nachos.

Public records indicate Cardenas filed for a new business permit on August 28. Maven listing agent Name name confirmed the new restaurant to Hoodline.

At this time it's unclear if Zona Rosa will serve alcohol. A previous liquor license held by Tacorgasmico expired in April 2022 and was not renewed. An application for a new liquor license is currently not on file with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

On a recent visit by a Hoodline reporter, construction workers could be seen inside the space preparing the restaurant for opening.

Tacorgasmico closed in April after eight years in the Castro. Owner Eduardo Sandoval closed the restaurant in order to focus on his sister Castro Mexican restaurant Santeria and a new project.

Prior to Tacorgasmico the space had been home to Greg Bronstein's Blue restaurant.

Zona Rosa's opening fills one of many storefront vacancies along the 2300 block of Market Street between Castro and Noe streets.

Earlier this summer Hoodline broke the news that Amazon-owned One Medical would be taking over the space formerly occupied by Coldwell Banker at 2355 Market St.

The block currently has five vacancies: the spaces formerly occupied by Wells Fargo (2308 Market), Kenneth Wingard (2319 Market), Worn Out West (2354 Market), Bisou (2367 Market), and Pottery Barn (2390 Market) all remain vacant.
